Multichoice Slashes Price for Users in East Africa
MultiChoice Africa, the parent company of satellite TV services DStv and GOtv recently announced plans to slash DStv subscription fees across East Africa after rival StarTimes lowered their price amidst pay-TV struggle in tough African economies.
The company revealed that from September 1, 2019, there will be a price reduction in monthly fees for DStv and Gotv consumers in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique.
DStv Kenya Slashes Package Fees Significantly – Multichoice Kenya was the first to implement a price slash for its consumers on August 20.
Following the September 1st effect, MultiChoice Uganda has today made it official — reducing the pay subscription for DSTv and GOTv. The affected packages are; Dstv Premium, Dstv Compact Plus, Dstv Compact, Dstv Family, and GOtv Plus.
MultiChoice Uganda, PR and Communications Manager, Ms Joan Semanda Kizza in a statement said “These significant price drop in the various DStv bouquets and GOtv Plus is our way to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring our customers receive the best possible access to great entertainment at outstanding value”
“These are tough economic times and as a company, we’re constantly looking at various ways our to thank customers for their ongoing support and loyalty whilst delivering a world-class entertainment service at a price they can afford”
The price changes that are being effected in Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya have caused other African subscribers in other nations to protest and subscribers from Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia among others all demanded price reductions as well.
Dstv price slash in Nigeria; will it ever happen?
An impossibility I’ll say; until Dstv Nigeria has a viable competitor, I doubt if there will ever be price slash in Nigeria.
In 2016, MultiChoice Nigeria was probed by the Nigerian Senate over alleged unwholesome practices and unreasonable subscription hikes across their various bouquets.
In spite of the probe, the company increased DStv subscription fees twice between 2017 and 2018. Amazing isn’t it. So, It’s safe to say that dstv price slash in Nigeria is still years ahead until something is done about its monopoly of Satalite Tv in Nigeria.
